About Alexander Litvinenko
Alexander Litvinenko served in the Russian military for over 20 years achieving the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. In 1999 he was arrested and imprisoned for refusing to complete a spy mission. He subsequently escaped from Russia and lived with his family in the UK, where he was granted political asylum. He became a British citizen in October 2006 and was poisoned with radioactive Polonium 210 (the first assassination of its kind) in November 2006.
