As a young man, Joshua Muravchik was a huge proponent for socialism, now he is the author of Heaven on Earth: The Rise and Fall of Socialism, where he argues strongly against it.

“As bad as I thought capitalism was, I knew communism was so much worse,” Muravchik says, “and that forced me to look more deeply at the abstract idea of socialism itself.”
