JOSHUA T. KATZ is a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he focuses on higher education, language and culture, the classical tradition, and the humanities broadly conceived. Educated at Yale, Oxford, and Harvard, he was Cotsen Professor in the Humanities and Professor of Classics at Princeton before joining AEI. In addition to visiting professorships in Paris and Berlin and residential fellowships in Oxford and London, he has received numerous national and international awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, for his scholarship and teaching in Classics, Linguistics, and Indo-European Studies. An outspoken advocate for free speech, academic freedom, and such disfavored ideas as truth, rigor, and merit, he was named a Hero of Intellectual Freedom by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni in 2020. In 2022–23, he was a Visiting Critic at The New Criterion.
